Film Room Notes: vs. Baylor, vs. Utah, vs. Stanford

Strengths: Massive, prototypical weight for a NT in a 4-3 or 3-4 – Carries weight very well – Could actually add weight/power to his already 348 lb. frame – Uses combination of length, leg drive, wiggle to get inside blockers and into the backfield – High motor guy, never stops moving, pushing – Has no problem anchoring one gap, holds his ground well – Can overpower if singled – Plus lateral movement for a guy his size – Uses bull rush effectively to get into the backfield – Flashed nice flexibility at the Senior Bowl, had a very effective Senior Bowl game.

Weaknesses: Can get too upright at times, prevents him from being a true two gap anchor – Can struggle against double teams, consistently getting pushed back – Needs to work on getting more physical with his hands, develop rush moves – Doesn’t always locate ball carrier behind the backfield, doesn’t have plus instincts – Doesn’t have an elite first step off the snap, building more strength in his lower body could improve his explosiveness – Depending on what game you watch, it could look like you’re seeing two different players.

I can see a team taking a chance on him as a 3-4 NT, but he still needs work developing into a true 3-4 nose. Has a ton of potential as either a 1 or 3-technique in a 4-3 if he can build strength to anchor, or work on hands/rush moves.
